Grants Specialist
Duties
The Grants Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and reporting for the agency’s grants and contracts in conjunction with project attorneys. The position is responsible for identifying prospective foundations, corporations, and local, state and federal government agencies to diversify the organization’s funding base, writing proposals and grant applications, working with program staff to implement projects, monitoring funded work, and preparing reports and invoices for grant and contract managers.
Qualifications
- Experience writing grants and preparing reports for not-for-profit organizations necessary.
- Excellent writing and editing skills required.
- Good human relations skills needed, especially the ability to communicate well and work with contract managers, funders, partner agencies, and program staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to not-for-profit work necessary.
- Knowledge of local, state and national foundations helpful.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree a plus.

Lucha Staff Attorney
AI Justice’s Lucha Project, established in 1997, serves immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or trafficking. Lucha attorneys work with grant partners to provide coordinated services in South Florida. Lucha has been at the forefront of service provision, legislative changes, and national advocacy efforts.
Duties:
- Effectively manage large VAWA, U-visa, T-visa, & VAWA-related Removal Defense caseload
- Screen immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking for eligibility for immigration benefits
- Supervise legal interns and paralegals representing clients
- Represent AI Justice’s Lucha Project at community meetings, events, advocacy committees, task forces
- Collaborate with government agencies and community based organizations to improve systemic responses to immigrant survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking
- Educate and provide technical assistance concerning immigration issues affecting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years immigration experience – including VAWA, U-visa, &/or T-visa experience
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and trafficking
- Experience training legal and social service advocates
- Excellent presentation skills for community outreach, education and training
- Strong writing, research and analytical skills; strong communication and group leadership skills • Interest in policy advocacy at the national level
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Ability to work well with people of diverse educational, cultural and professional backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish REQUIRED
- Must be licensed to practice law in any state.
