The FTC joined the Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Justice (DOJ), along with various state and local law enforcement agencies at a press conference on June 9, 2011, in seven cities and jointly announced an inter-agency campaign to combat immigration service scams on all fronts.  Federal immigration authorities have also agreed to forward immigration-related consumer complaints to the FTC, making it possible for the first time for federal, state, and local authorities to access complaints that USCIS refers to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and that ICE opts not to prosecute.  In connection with this broad initiative, the FTC announced that a federal judge has shut down an operation in Baltimore, Maryland for allegedly misrepresenting that it was authorized to provide immigration services.  You can read more about the case here: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/06/immigration.shtm
