Help Us HELP DREAMers

Dear Friends,

I just returned from the White House. We discussed how we can ensure the success of President Obama’s historic announcement to allow an estimated 800,000 young immigrants to come out of the shadows and contribute to the country they love and call home–America.

AI Justice worked very hard to get to this day. We helped lead the nationwide campaign urging the Administration to grant deferred action to DREAMers, and many of the eligible young immigrants are our clients. Now we face both an enormous opportunity and a daunting challenge. That is why I am sending you this urgent message – to update you on the implications of the President’s decision and to ask for your help in ensuring it’s just implementation across the country.

You see, if this first sensible step is done well and is viewed as a success by Congress members and the American people, not only will hundreds of thousands of young immigrants benefit, we will also have a much better chance of Congress passing a smart and humane national immigration policy. But it will not be easy. From our experience with Haitian Temporary Protected Status, we know the difficulties involved in ensuring that countless DREAMers have access to fair and effective legal representation. Unscrupulous notaries already are preying on them.

Our work is cut out for us. There will be a deluge of young immigrants looking for legal help and guidance in applying for this new temporary status. We are already receiving hundreds of calls. We do not have a budget for this “emergency.” But we cannot say “no” to the eager young immigrants nor to this extraordinary opportunity to show how commonsense and humanity can play out on this issue.

Frankly, we need your financial help right away! We need the funds so we can play a critical role to ensure that immigrants have access to effective pro bono legal representation. This is your opportunity, as it is AI Justice’s, to help make history. Maybe we can even break the political gridlock and bring Americans together to solve this controversial issue. That would be a great day.

We urgently need your help right now. So please, if you can possibly afford it, send as generous an emergency contribution right away of $1,000, $500, $100 or whatever you can do today. We will put it to work, literally, this week.

You can make a contribution by clicking below to go to our website which has a Freedom to Dream designation option for this emergency contribution.

On behalf of AI Justice and thousands of excited young immigrants, Thank You!
