🚨The federal government is offering unaccompani 🚨The federal government is offering unaccompanied migrant children 14 and older $2,500 to “self-deport” back to their countries, according to a memo sent by the Department of Health and Human Services.

At Americans for Immigrant Justice, we are deeply concerned by this approach. It is critical to recognize the context in which these decisions are being made: by children, often without legal guidance.

👉Key facts:
- What may be framed as a “choice” to leave is often made without full understanding of legal rights.
- There is no guaranteed right to an attorney in immigration court—even for children.
- Immigration law is incredibly complex, and expecting a minor to navigate it alone and in a language they do not speak is wholly unrealistic.

Americans for Immigrant Justice is the only legal service provider for children housed in shelters under the jurisdiction of the Miami immigration court.

💜Our team is actively conducting visits to every facility where we represent unaccompanied minors. During these visits, we are ensuring each child understands their legal rights and available options.

Children need us now more than ever. Support our efforts with link in bio or at aijustice.org/donate

✨ A powerful moment in Vatican City ✨ Our Exe ✨ A powerful moment in Vatican City ✨
Our Executive Director, Sui Chung, had the honor of greeting Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican as part of the conference, "Refugees & Migrants in Our Common Home," where Chung presented to global leaders about the important work that Americans for Immigrant Justice does every day.

Chung also discussed our crucial collaboration with Stetson University College of Law as we work closely together to serve immigrant communities in need of representation. The conference was three years in the making by Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and preceded the 111th World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

“Immigrants and refugees are the embodiment of hope. They demonstrate tremendous strength, despite immense adversity, as they seek a future where safety and possibilities exist,” said Sui Chung. “Our presence at the Vatican underscores our commitment to a common vision rooted in dignity, shared responsibility and hope.”

🙏At Americans for Immigrant Justice, we put this vision into practice daily by providing free legal services to immigrants. We ensure vulnerable individuals, especially children, do not face our complicated immigration process alone.

🚨‼️There are reports that Immigration and C 🚨‼️There are reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement could start targeting unaccompanied children nationwide as early as today.
👉These reports of a possible operation by ICE are deeply alarming. This would be done during a widely observed day of religious reflection as well as during a government shutdown with limited communication.
🙏🏽 These young people have already endured trauma and uncertainty — they deserve care, not enforcement.
At Americans for Immigrant Justice, we are the only legal service provider for children in shelters under the Miami immigration court’s jurisdiction. Our team is visiting all facilities with unaccompanied minors we represent. We are advising them of the reports we received and we are informing them of their rights.

➡️Regardless of their legal status, children have rights, including the right to:
	•	Remain silent
	•	Ask to speak with a lawyer
	•	Refuse to sign any document they do not understand

⚖️ Every day, we fight to ensure immigrant children have access to legal protections, safety, and a fair chance at justice under immigration law.

📢We cannot stay silent. These children need us — and they need you.

There is no right to free legal representation in immigration proceedings and without AI Justice, which never charges for its services, countless adults and children without the means to hire an attorney would be forced to navigate our complex immigration system alone, essentially denying them the opportunity for justice.
