A looming hurricane did not deter AI Justice supporters from attending the Celebrate Dreams! event, graciously hosted by Sabadell United Bank on October 25.  Over 70 guests enjoyed the cocktail reception and listened to the stories of young DREAMers that AI Justice has represented.

These young people were brought to the U.S. as children, went to school here, and now wish to pursue their dreams in the country they call home.  Unable to work or drive, typically forced to pay out-of-state tuition rates at their local community or state college, they have lived in a netherworld for years through no fault of their own.  AI Justice’s legal team helped bring about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program last June for the young people who spoke at the event.   We are working with Florida International University’s Law School to assist DREAMers with their DACA applications.

The newly formed Young Professionals of AI Justice recruited several new members at the event.  Esther Besonias, Professional Banker at Sabadell United Bank, joined the YPAIJ that evening, saying “This is the land of opportunity, and it is hard for me to see The American Dream moving further away from hard working immigrants.  Getting involved will give me the opportunity to help that dream come true. “
