TRIVIA PARTICIPANTS AT PORTLAND MERCADO RAISE FUNDS FOR AMERICANS FOR IMMIGRANT JUSTICE – KATU NEWS

PORTLAND, Ore. – People in Southeast Portland have found a lighthearted way to make a difference with the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and keep the conversation going.

The Portland Mercado, a collection of food carts along Southeast Foster Road, is holding a trivia night every Wednesday.

Two weeks ago, to protest President Donald Trump’s border policies, a small group of trivia-goers raised $200 and gave it to Americans for Immigrant Justice.

“Being educated is important to me. So yeah, I mean, you know, you learn about things that you’re curious about, but also, you’re at the Mercado, so it’s awareness around issues that have to do with Latinos in this country,” said Jessica Adams, who took part in border crisis trivia.

This week, they’re hoping to raise even more money to help reunite immigrant families separated at the border.
