There is no right to free legal representation in There is no right to free legal representation in immigration proceedings. That's why we step in and provide free legal representation to those who need it most. Without AI Justice, which never charges for its services, countless adults and children without the means to hire an attorney would be forced to navigate our complex immigration system alone.

Immigrants with legal representation are 5 times more likely to pursue immigration relief and win their cases than those without attorneys. Your donation to AI Justice helps provide free representation to immigrants, allowing them a chance to exercise their right to seek safety and opportunity in the United States.

It was an honor to welcome members of the Miramar It was an honor to welcome members of the Miramar Circle of Protection to our office yesterday and discuss ways to best support the immigrant community checking in at the Miramar ICE-ERO Center. Through ongoing collaboration, we will continue to monitor conditions at Miramar and help people and families navigating our country’s complex immigration system. Thank you to the Circle of Protection for joining us!
“Family detention is cruel. It is never fair, or “Family detention is cruel. It is never fair, orderly, or humane. The job of a detention guard or deportation officer is inherently in conflict with caring for children. Even though the Flores Settlement requires that children be placed in the least restrictive setting, and Judge Dolly Gee has interpreted this to mean approximately 20 days, I worked with families who were detained for nearly two years. I saw children forget how to walk and talk. And I saw children who learned how to walk and talk for the first time – they grew up in jail.

Family detention is expensive and the human cost is most damning. My one-year-old client Marie died days days after her release from family detention, where she contracted a respiratory illness. My 14-year-old client tried to hang herself with a shower curtain because she could no longer sustain the realities of indefinite detention.

This is groundhog’s day. We have been here before, and the data and statistics that have been collected overtime unequivocally confirm that family detention is unnecessary and there are clear alternative solutions.” -Executive Director Shay Fluharty
The Biden administration’s proposed asylum ban w The Biden administration’s proposed asylum ban would be a massive restriction on people’s rights to seek safety from persecution. The policy would deny the vast majority of asylum seekers from exercising their right to apply for asylum due to their manner of entry or transit through other countries. This is unlawful and inhumane.

Instead of strengthening systems to access asylum and protecting immigrants seeking safety, the Biden administration is planning to reject people and families. In effect, an asylum ban is just another border wall, a cruel way to keep out those in need.

The U.S. cannot turn its back on our moral and legal obligation to protect people and families in need. President Biden must strengthen the process to seek asylum at the border — not ban it.

Our executive director Shay Fluharty joined @glenn Our executive director Shay Fluharty joined @glennawplg & @local10news to explain the harm that Florida’s Migrant Relocation Program will cause immigrant communities. This program creates further confusion, chaos, and disorder in our immigration system by interfering with the federal government’s current immigration processes.

Governor DeSantis has expanded the Relocation Program to allocate an additional $10 million to transport migrants from any state in the country to another location. Floridians deserve a government that works for them and utilizes valuable tax-payer dollars to invest in our communities, not one that spends public funds to target individuals based on their race and national origin.

Grateful for our community partners and #ShutDownB Grateful for our community partners and #ShutDownBaker Coalition members. Together, we are working toward a better future for all immigrants, including fighting for the release of everyone detained at Baker. Together, we can make positive change ✊
Today, on the Department of Homeland Security‘s Today, on the Department of Homeland Security‘s 20th anniversary, we held a press conference to reflect on the agency’s history of harm as the umbrella organization of ICE and CBP, its failure to implement meaningful oversight to its contractors, and its unwillingness to hold them accountable when injustices occur. We see that harm right here in Florida, including at the Baker County Detention Center, which has been plagued by a long and troubling history of abuse. ICE and DHS have proved unable and unwilling to address these well-documented abuses. In DHS’s 20th year there’s no excuse for the agency to continuously failed to ensure the safety of people in ICE custody. We call on DHS to, for the first time in its history, truly lean into its duty to provide meaningful oversight and end abuses at the facilities it oversees, starting by ending the contract with Baker County, shutting down the Baker County Detention Center, and releasing all people detained at Baker to their homes and loved ones. #ShutDownBaker
