Vol. 17, Issue No. 1
AI Justice’s Children’s Legal Project, which represents unaccompanied minor immigrants in custody, joined forces with the South Florida Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association to create a memorable holiday party for children currently detained in three South Florida shelters.
Through a generous outpouring of gifts and funding from supporters all over the country, we were able to ensure that each of the more than 130 children received a great holiday gift. For some of the children, this was the first gift they ever received.
The children had a great time enjoying delicious food donated by Chef Lars Catering, Tap Tap, Latin Café, Enriqueta’s, Esther’s, Casa de las Baleadas, El Atlakatl, Fritanga Monimbo, Price Choice, and Antigua Guatemala. Dinner was followed by dancing, another rare treat. “Thank you for making us feel special,” wrote one of them in a thank you letter. The volunteers who gathered and wrapped gifts, made party bags, and attended the party were also touched by the experience.
